Third Quarter Earnings Season Looms

The week starting Monday, October 11, marks the start of the earnings season. Third-quarter earnings figures by corporate giants such as Wall Street mainstays Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan will be revealed in the coming days.

Otherwise, a relatively lightweight week is expected in terms of scheduled economic events and reports. Meanwhile, October continues to unpack mixed data for the economy, and the focus this week will be primarily on the US.

Monday holds no significant economic data. Moreover, Canada will be off in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

On Tuesday, to kickstart this week’s reporting, the UK will deliver its Claimant Count Change for September. The report is expected to arrive at 02:00 am EST. Next, at 05:00 am EST, Germany will publish its ZEW Economic Sentiment for October. Afterward, at 10:00 am EST, the US will announce its JOLTs Job Openings for August.

Inflation Data in the US

On Wednesday, at 02:00 am EST, the UK will publish its manufacturing production numbers for August, on a monthly basis. Next follows a crucial report from the US, namely, the core CPI figures. Moreover, slated for 08:30 am EST, the core CPI for September will show if inflation stayed high or it has moderated. Later in the day, at 08:30 pm EST, Australia will report its employment change numbers for September.

Thursday brings the September PPI figures from the US. The report is scheduled to arrive at 08:30 am EST.

Friday will deliver the US core retail sales data at 08:30 am EST. Along with it, the all-items retail sales report for September will be announced.

In the meantime, traders and investors will be closely monitoring the beginning of the earnings season in the US. Top investment banks and investment funds are slated to unveil how they performed during the quarter ended September.
